Forth Worth Suburban Home

Most watercolor students are afraid of painting their own suburban home, forgetting that much detail can be omitted by cropping the picture to show only the entrance with a little of the landscape surrounding. We will trace this image onto an 8x10” stretched paper surface and work on the colors and detail following.

Beginner Art Class: How To Paint Your Photograph

Learn how to use an upgraded grid system to create realistic paintings from your photographs. Find your 3 favorite photos on your phone and print them as 8X10’s. Bring these THREE 8x10 photos to class. Bring your phone too.
Don’t worry, Linda will provide photos for you to select from also. We will choose the “best” photo so that you will leave the class with a 9x12 acrylic painting on canvas.
Linda will provide tips and techniques for creating the grid and transferring your image to canvas.
During this fun, low-stress class, Linda will discuss/teach color mixing, values, composition, edges, shadows, and other basic elements of art.

The Durango-Silverton excursion train has been an adventure for millions and makes a striking 8x10” watercolor composition. We will trace the image and render the colors afterward. Beginners welcome!

GMC Pickup at Colorado Gas Station

Few things are more satisfying than rendering damaged paint on an abandoned pickup truck left at a derelict filling station. We will trace this image onto 8x10” stretched watercolor paper and render the color afterward.

Valentine Heart

We will have fun painting valentines! These valentines will be painted in acrylic on 6x6 gallery wrapped canvas (sides are 1.5 inches deep), and look adorable on a shelf.  You will be able to choose from several different designs.  We will paint the sides as well, you can even try a striped design on the sides!

We will trace the image onto an 8 x 10" stretched panel. Instructor will demonstrate techniques in drybrush, layered colored washes and sharp detailing. Beginners welcome.

Cowboy Coffee

We will trace this watercolor onto an 8 x 10” surface. Using a toothbrush to spatter masquing fluid will create a starry sky as well as ground textures. With the use of Mister Clean Magic Erasers and stale bread crumbs, we’ll create the smoke and cinders from the fire. The cowboy’s bright plaid shirt will make this night composition pop.

Architecture

We will trace this photograph onto an 8 x 10” surface and concentrate our watercolor on the tower structure. Emphasis will be on the colors and textures of the building. Special tips will be shared on rendering precise lines and sharp edges that make the building stand out.

Box Canyon

Georgia O’Keeffe’s Ghost Ranch has inspired many artists since her day. This section of Box Canyon gives the student the chance to mix the vivid colors of New Mexico rock formations and learn new techniques for creating the various textures that punctuate the walls. Techniques will also be shared for rendering the green foliage below.
